MIDDLESBROUGH, Nov 18 (SW) - Despite enjoying the better of the possession, Liverpool remained winless away from home in the Premiership this season after a 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough.

With Steven Gerrard starting in his preferred spot in central midfield, much was expected of the England international, but he along with his team failed to inspire at the Riverside.

Craig Bellamy and Xabi Alonso fired shots off-target during the first half, and Liverpool's half-hearted appeals for a penalty were denied when Julio Arca clashed with Dirk Kuyt.

Jason Euell's header was saved by José Reina in Boro's only true chance, but Liverpool failed to find the target as a resolute Boro defense held firm, including forcing Peter Crouch to fire wide twice late on.
