A CORUÑA, Nov 19 (SW) - A goal with 17 minutes to play by Brazilian midfielder Nené gave Celta de Vigo a 1-0 victory over Deportivo in this season's first edition of the Galician derby.

Both sides traded early chances with Santiago Arizmendi missing an early chance for Depor, and likewise Fernando Baiano not capitalizing on a scoring opporunity on 10 minutes for Celta.

Baiano then missed an even better chance to give Celta the lead 15 minutes later when he capped off a fine solo effort with a shot just off the mark, and the visitors continued pressuring the Depor goal in the second half.

Just after the restart, Ernesto Canobbio fired a shot just wide to the left, but Depor came closest to scoring in the 53rd minute when Cristián missed the target by just a hair's breadth.

Celta came back and nearly went in front through Nené in the 62nd minute with their best chance up to that point, but he would come through for the visitors 12 minutes later.

After fine ball up the pitch by Jonathan Aspas sparked a counterattack that saw Baiano pull out the Depor goalkeeper, Dudu Awat, and Nené took the pass and slotted home for the opener, silencing the Riazor faithful.

Depor's hopes were dashed two minutes from the end when defender Alberto Lopo was sent off for his second bookable offense leaving Celta to claim first blood in this year's first derby.
