MILAN/MOSCOW, Nov 22 (SW) - Inter Milan secured a berth in the Round of 16 as they defeated Sporting in Champions League Group B, while Bayern Munich stay atop the group after a draw at Spartak Moscow.
Inter Milan - Sporting 1-0
Both sides had chances to go in front in the first half, but the Italians were the ones to open the score as Hernán Crespo, in the 36th minute, volleyed in a beautiful shot after an even better pass from Dejan Stankovic.
Alecsandro and Tonel both had efforts saved by Julio César in the second half as Sporting tried to keep alive their hopes of qualification, but Inter held on late to secure their spot in the next round.
Spartak Moscow - Bayern Munich 2-2
The struggling Russian side came out strong in this one and went in front in the 16th minute as Maxim Kalinichenko swung in a masterful free kick after being fouled by Willy Sagnol.
But Claudio Pizarro quickly pulled the goal back for the Germans - who have already qualified for the next round - as he headed into the Spartak goal just six minutes after the opener.
Pizarro then snatched the lead for Bayern six minutes before half-time with a laser drive that Alexei Zuev had no chance of stopping.
But the Russians came back in the second half and equalized in the 72nd minute when Radoslav Kovac turned the ball in after a scramble in the area following a corner kick.
