LONDON, Nov 21 (SW) – Gary Neville’s long – term well – being is of great concern to Manchester United’s boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson said that his thirty one year old defender and captain, who also missed England’s clash last Wednesday against The Netherlands with a recurrence of a calf injury picked up at the World Cup, will have to undergo an operation to help sort out the problem.
Fluid has been developing in his right leg and has now begun in the left as well and will require surgery sooner rather than later.
Neville is expected to play for Manchester United against Celtic in the Champions League tonight as well as on Sunday in the vital Premier League clash at Old Trafford against closest rivals Chelsea.
His injury however has prevented him from playing as regularly and consistently as would have been hoped by the player.
He never showed any ill – effects after Saturday’s Premiership clash against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, but Ferguson is not keen on taking any chances on his captain’s future this season.
