LONDON, Nov 18 (SW) - Chelsea needed a goal from an unlikely source as Geremi fired in the winner in the Blues' 1-0 triumph over London rivals West Ham at Stamford Bridge.
A drab first half by both sides was desperately in need of a highlight moment, and that came in the 22nd minute as full-back Geremi with an unreal free kick that flew past Robert Green in goal.
Later on, Arjen Robben had a chance to extend the lead with a great close-range chance, but scuffed his shot and pulled it wide of the target.
The Hammers looked better in the second half, but they still could not create a good scoring chance, and Chelsea were always the bigger threat to goal with Michael Essien even cracking a shot against the post.
In the end, Chelsea remained three points adrift of Manchester United at the top after the Red Devils 2-1 win at Sheffield United.
