ROME, Nov 21 (SW) – Michel Platini has stated that he believes Francesco Totti deserves to be suspended for not accepting his call up to the national team.

The Roma striker has decided not to play for the Italian national team at the moment as he still wants to regain his fitness after his ankle fracture.

Totti is understood to want to wait until the metal plates have been removed from his ankle sometime next year before he returns to his national side.

“Totti is a great footballer, but he cannot be the one to decide if he must be called up for the national team or not,” announced Platini.

The candidate for the position as the new President of UEFA continued, “If he is called up and refuses to answer then he should be suspended for two matches according to the international rules.”
