CAGLIARI, Nov 18 (SW) - A late goal by Simone Pepe lifted Cagliari to a 1-0 upset victory over 10-man Palermo in Sardinia on Saturday evening.
Palermo, joint-top of the table with Inter entering the weekend, failed to break through in the first half and they were dealt a blow when Fabio Simplicio was shown a straight red card just before the interval.
Palermo's defense came to the rescue to keep the match within reach for themselves, but Cagliari broke through in the dying stages as Pepe found the back of the net to steal the victory.
A win by Inter Milan on Sunday will send the Nerazzurri three points clear at the top of the Serie A table.
