Sevilla go top with Valencia rout

Written by: Stephen Sharp
SEVILLE, Nov 18 (SW) - Valencia prepared for next weekend's visit from Real Madrid in the worst possible way as they were hammered 3-0 at Sevilla, who went back to the La Liga summit.

It was bad news from the outset for Valencia as David Silva picked up a booking inside three minutes, and then was sent off for a second bookable offense just 13 minutes later to leave his side shorthanded.

Sevilla would capitalize quickly on their numerical advantage with Julien Escudé firing a shot beyond Santiago Cañizares to give the reigning UEFA Cup holders the lead.

They held that led until 10 minutes after the second-half restart when Luis Fabiano tucked one home to extend the lead to 2-0, and leading scorer Frédéric Kanouté bagged his ninth goal of the year in the 71st minute to ice the game.

Sevilla are now two points ahead of idle Barcelona, who can reclaim top spot in the league with a win over Mallorca on Sunday.
